Cheap hounding in NOLA

Paul Heltzel | Apr 15, 2002 02:35 PM

Just got back from breakfast at Petunia's in the Quarter. The Country Breakfast ($6) is consistently my favorite in town. I'd be happy to hear if somebody knows an equal/better breakfast for the price. Love that place.

Surrey's Cafe on Magazine (1400 block) has a great mufelleta. Good biscuits and gravy too. Just a nice environment, very laid back. Friendly people. And rootbeer on draft. Another really good value (the mufelleta is around $5, I think), and a cool spot. I added the URL of a review from the gambit, below.

My wife bakes at Commander's Palace and my tip there is 25 cent martinis at lunch. I really like hitting the fancy-dancy high end places for cheaper lunches. NOLA in the quarter is a good lunch spot too. Haven't tried Emeril's or the Delmonico yet. Looking forward to trying Peristyle and Bayona.

Would appreciate any recommendations for hounding in the $6 and under range. Thanks!
