New Cheap Eats/Late-Night Fave--New Diner's Drive-In

For the past couple of months, I’ve been to New Diner’s Drive-In (in Kalihi) at least once a week. I can’t believe I never came to this place before! I think it went under new ownership within the past year. Their menu is super varied with lots of classic plate lunches, daily specials, Korean BBQ, breakfast, and burgers. I think the most expensive plate on the menu is $5.95. And they give you a LOT of food. I weighed my roast pork plate once and the meat ALONE was about 8 oz.!!!

Honestly, this is solid, local food with no frills. However, everything I’ve had has been really tasty and really satisfying. My husband’s favorite is the Bruddah Moco (loco moco with corned beef instead of hamburger patty). My favorite is the Mochiko Chicken or the Kalua Pig plate. And the bentos! And the fried saimin!

The best part about this place is that it’s open 24 hours a day, every day. We were there late Friday night, and my hamburger, fries, and soda ($3.50 TOTAL!) were exactly what I needed! Oh, I almost forgot…they have their own bakery on-site and bake fresh hamburger buns and bread every day. I have NEVER heard of a local place that does this!

The only downside to this place is that I wish there was more seating on-site.
