Just went to the Newport branch of Charthouse for Mothers' Day dinner with my in-laws; not my choice, but previously, a chain which was at least inoffensive and competent, and capable (thinking back fifteen or twenty years) of being pretty good.
I was quite underwhelmed. Admittedly, this was Mothers' Day, but it was an early dinner, and nobody was ordering anything complicated. Party of 7, so should not have been unmanagable.
Food was disappointing; fishes did not reach the level of McCormick & Schmicks, and barely peaked above the Market Broiler/Red Lobster standard. And is my memory excessively rosy-colored? Was the much-vaunted salad bar much more interesting and extensive a decade ago, or has a decade+ of salad bars everywhere including Ralphs' just jaded me?
So, just me, or is this a common experience?
