My God, it was hot. Born and raised in SC, I was still surprised by the heat. I'll try to remember in Greenville, SC next January, when Charleston is warmer and drier...what the humidity felt like last weekend. Almost to hot to eat....but not quite!
167 Raw: We ate a very late lunch or very early dinner there, which meant we didn't have to wait for a seat. We shared a crab claw, the ceviche and the lobster roll, and a fried oyster taco. Everything was very good, but the ceviche was outstanding. Big hunks of halibut (the best) and grouper. This was the best ceviche I had eaten in years!
Goat Sheep Cow: We picked up Comte, Ewephoria and a buffalo parm. Fantastic snack for later than night on the rooftop terrace at the Regatta Inn on Folly.
'Wich Doctor on Folly: Good but semi-bland thai chicken salad was transformed by the awesome house-made hot/vinegar sauces. Good brisket and kimchee sandwich.
Wild Olive: I ate myself to death. Delicious focaccia, fried calamari, corn special appetizer/salad, beautiful wreckfish, very good gnocchi. I can't go there without getting the affagado. Only drawback was the A/C broke in the dining the room where we were.
Juice Joint "food" truck parked on Folly: We had a fresh green juice (my self-disciplined husband) and a sparkling grapefruit aqua fresca w/ blueberries and mint (sugar-loving me). Fantastic. went back the next day.
Artisan Meat Share: to pick up to-go meat. We got the roast beef, the black pepper salumi, and the landjaeger (sp?). The first two were unimpressive and the last was unpleasant. Very disappointed.
Ordinary: I had the same lovely razor clams that kathryn (nearby report) did at the Ordinary. Also the BBQ shrimp, which were lovely, although I would have preferred the "charred bread" be served separately rather than swimming in the sauce. Also the chips, the lobster cocktail, the squid a la plancha (favorite dish of both my husband and myself) and the peach and shishito dish. It was a great meal, as expected from anything related to FIG.
I love Charleston!
