Question. I went to Mei Lei Wah this weekend, since every chowhound seemed to recommend it as the best char sui bao in the city. Tried all three kinds, the steamed, baked and special bun.
The baked was good (but was right out of the oven, so I may be biased). The steamed was alright. The bread wasn't tough enough in my personal opinion.
In both cases, the char siu was so fatty! There were huge chunks of fat in the meat. Granted that may be some people's preference...is that normal at this place? If it is, does anyone know of any other places in the city that serve a less fatty char siu bao?
On a side note, per another recommendation, I tried the special bun. That was fantastic. A little bit of everything, all for 1.40.
