Made a return visit to Chapeau! on this cold and rainy night. Absolutely wonderful to walk into the warmth and friendliness from the dreary outside weather!
We did the early bird with some addons (sweetbreads for me - absolutely amazing with the crispy porcini crust and meltingly tender insides, tasted especially good paired with the oyster(?) mushrooms, and French onion soup for my dining partner). Amuse tonight was split pea soup with a drizzle of basil oil - nice way to start getting warm!
Currently on the early bird, from what I recall right now:
-mesclun salad with mustard vinaigrette, fried camembert cheese (LOVE this stuff)
-curry cauliflower soup, garnish of carmelized pears
-duo of salmon (I think it was a tartar and a cured prep - lox maybe?)
-there was one more, but it's escaping me at the moment
-mussels with french fries (boyfriend enjoyed these, though I think I favor the ones we had at OPLS last week - still tasty and a generous portion)
-salmon on a bed of artichoke and other veggies (can't recall what though)
-bacon wrapped pork loin on a bed of mashed potatoes with a garnish of spiced apple (stewed?) and a delicious reduction sauce (this was fantastic, boyfriend was making puppy eyes to get more bites of it!)
-trio of sorbets
-vanilla bean creme brulee
-panna cotta with strawberries (served in a pretty martini glass and topped with whip cream) - this one seemed really popular tonight, saw lots of them come out
-profiteroles (always my favorite)
I love this place. I can't recommend it highly enough. The owner was charming and gracious as always! Even though the restaurant was absolutely jam-packed we weren't rushed at all, and enjoyed every minute of our decadent dinner!
