Went today for the $20.01 lunch and was not displeased, but very underwhelmed compared to the other $20 lunch places we have gone to this year (Judson Grill and La Caravelle). Cafe Boloud is next week.
First we were only allowed to make a reservation for 2:00pm or after since we wanted the $20 lunch as opposed to their regular $38 lunch. That's not such a big deal. The menu however, only had one item per course, no choice whatsoever. Chilled watercress soup with sorrel which I was not a fan of. Very bitter tasting. Salmon with garlic in a lemony vinegrette sauce with mashed potatoes and wax beans. The beans were inedible, they were so old. Salmon was tender and sauce was good. Potatoes very ordinary. Desert was lemon panna cotta w/ 3 blackberries and a coconut cookie which was just ok.
Our waitress, while very polite, must have been training on the job. She brought out my drink with something other than ice in it and had to get another one. Dropped a bread roll on the floor. Almost dropped our plates while clearing the table.
I had hoped that the restaurant was really beautiful, especially in light of Zagat's rating of 27 for decor. But I thought the decor was extremely plain and quite frankly was disappointed. BTW, Service was also rated a 27.
