I was there last night and was extremely diaappointed. For the love of God I just don't understand why all the fuss is made over this establishment. Last night was just not what one would call a top of the line dinnder from one of the so called finest restaurants in the city.
Appetizers were less than very good, with the seafood sausage cold in the center and the squash blossoms looked wilted and almost colorless. The special cream soup was excellent! Then came our main courses. My wife and I shared the Prime Rib of Beef which was barely average and barely edible because of the large fat deposit and overly salted potatos. The creamed spinich was more like spinich cream. There was a duck entree ordered and that was fine, (miniscule but fine). My friend ordered the lamb but was brought out the duck. He never mentioned duck when ordering; he doesn't like duck. It was immediately wisked back to the kitchen and was told it would be a few minutes befor the lamb would be brought out and after waiting 20 minutes he informed the server he no longer wanted the lamb, for all of us had just about finished our meals or were nearly finished.
We were brought glasses of after dinner wines and an extra dessert but this was nearly the low point of the meal. The desserts were very basic and with the exception of the lemon souflee, they seemed to be mass produced and uninspired. The topper on the evening was when after we were told of the dessert selections I inquired if I could sustitute the black pepper ice cream with the chocolate malt flavor. Our server very pompously told me she would ask the chef if it would be okay for the palate. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DESSERT MY DEAR! The chocolate selection was no more than the typical Morton's knockoff.
Again I ask, "What is all the fuss about"?
