CHALLENGE - SF Chowhound in search of LA family restaurants (longish)

Schnackers | Mar 20, 200205:48 PM

Hello LA chowhounds! I'll be in your neck of the woods next Saturday and Monday, and I'm looking for suggestions for great restaurants I shouldn't miss for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've got some specific issues, however.

I'll be travelling with my family, who are not the bravest people ever when it comes to dining out. For example, if we're going to do soul food, it would probably be at Roscoe's in Pasadena or something non-threatening like that. (Is that blasphemy? I've heard it's actually quite yummy, but I've never been.) My folks would probably also be uncomfortable with a super-trendy restaurant.

There will be 7 of us in the party, so we can't go to any teensy-tiny restaurants. This might not be as much of an issue in LA as it is here in San Francisco, but I thought I'd mention it.

Because there are so many of us, I'd like to stay away from the really expensive places- under $15 or so for an entree is about where we want to stay.

We'll be packing in a lot of touristy stuff (Venice, Melrose, etc) so I don't want to have to drive to the ends of the earth to find a restaurant.

And finally, I'd like to try a couple places that aren't as prevalent in San Francisco. What kinds of food can you only get in LA?

I know, I know--- I'm very picky. But if anyone can make suggestions that fit the bill, I'll be eternally grateful! Thanks for all your help!
