Had my first Chacarero!

mpost | Apr 1, 2004 08:13 PM

Was passing through Downtown Crossing this afternoon in the pouring rain and decided to stop for a bite. I remembered trying to get a Chacarero before during prime time, but the line (actually, two to order and one to pick up) was daunting so I passed. Between the rain and the late hour, I was fortunate to be able to get a sandwich right away...and now, I understand the lines!

Probably one of the best, most flavorful sandwiches I've ever had. Tender and tasty grilled chicken and beef, tomato slices at the peak of freshness, some interesting sauces/spreads with just the right amount of creaminess and spiciness, and the green beans. OK, I doubted, but the green beans were awesome. Steamed to tender perfection, they gave the sandwich an unexpected and interesting texture and flavor. I'm definitely going back for more!
