Cha-Ya Vegan Japanese in the Mission

Philip | Jun 11, 2006 12:26 AM

Three of us went to the new-ish Cha-Ya Restaurant in the Mission last night. I had the "Moon Garden" which is basically tofu custard with vegetables. I didn't care for the texture of the custard, which is a little too grainy for my taste. I love the traditional Chawan Mushi made with eggs which has a silky-smooth texture. It was a fairly small portion, too.

A friend had the Tempura. Light batter, but nothing special.

The last person had the Tofu Curry Udon. Te broth was flavorful, and it looked like a generous portion.

Prices are low (light eater) to moderate (if you have a bigger appetite).

It was packed when we left at 7:30.
