Cha-Am disappointment

We go to Cha-Am in North Berkeley every so often because it's close to our house, and we have a rule - don't order off the menu; only get the specials (they're almost universally yummy, fresh, and relatively innovative). Well, I broke that rule the other night because I was envisioning a different dish from the one I ordered. It was red curry with tofu and eggplant, a dish I love at other restaurants (Tuk Tuk Thai and Thai Noodle spring to mind). Cha-Am's rendition came in a small dish, with two (I'm serious here) chunks of underdone eggplant and about 7 small cubes of tofu (not fried - just thrown in). The rest was made up of red curry sauce (rapidly separating), canned baby corn, rubbery mushrooms, a couple strips of red pepper, and something that was either cucumber or zucchini. It should have been called "Mixed Vegetables with Red Curry, Tofu, and Eggplant". We barely got through any of it (of course we picked out all the eggplant and tofu, though). I hope posting this will help remind me in the future not to order off of Cha-Am's regular menu. (Caveat: we ordered the tom kha gai off the menu and it was fine.)
