Cetrella has opened a second branch in downtown Los Altos and our first dinner there tonight was greatly enjoyable.
For appetizers we had the heirloom tomatoes with watermelon and cucumber, and the tomato gazpacho with basil-melon sorbet. Both demonstrated the benefits of excellent produce quality prepared in interesting combinations.
For entrees we had the salmon and tajarin dishes. The salmon was beautifully cooked and really tasty though it was apparently coming from New Zealand. The tajarin was one of those dishes I have to figure out how to make. I'm not sure I'll ever do the fresh egg pasta, but the lemon-brown butter sauce with artichokes and bread crumbs should be doable with some trial and error. But that pasta, mmmm - one of the best pasta dishes I've had in this country.
Wines by the glass are very well selected. We had glasses of Les Chataigniers Sancerre, Olivier Sumeire Côtes-de-Provence Cabernet Rosé, and Chalk Hill Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and enjoyed them all.
Desserts looked promising but we were full so that will have to wait for next time. And there will be a next time - there are plenty of other dishes on this menu that looked really good going by.
It's not cheap but it's very fair value for the quality. It's so nice to have an excellent American restaurant in downtown Los Altos again - probably our first since Jocco's which is a long time ago now.
