There is an old tradition in certain parts of Rhode Island and Mass., known as, "Family style chicken dinners." Yankee magazine had a feature article about them several years back. The places that do this style of dinner are down to a precious few. Century House, is one that carries the tradition on.

Typicaly, a dinner includes salad, roast chicken, stuffing, potatos,a second vegetable, gravy, cranberry sauce, dessert & coffee. It is always ALL YOU CAN EAT!
The prices for these mini feasts are in the $8 to $9
range. That is what I had yesterday.

If you don't want the chicken entree (roasted to a perfection), there is Fish & chips, Pot Roast of Beef, Roast Pork Loin, and on sunday's Traditional Turkey dinner. All entres are served with the same acompaniments. Except the beef & pork comes with a boat of brown gravy instead of chicken gravy.

Here is the rub. Century House is only open as a public restaurnt on Thursdays 4-8 PM, Fridays 4-9 PM and Sundays 12-8 PM. The hours are limited but the quality and quantity of those dinners are certainly worth the effort.
