Centro, another hip new place arrived in Midtown a while ago. The owner is the chef from La Vecchia, who really upped his game when he moved from Virginia St. to his current location on Skyline. The menu at Centro is eclectic featuring small(but not too small) shareable plates. We were with another couple and were able to try a large selection of items-most were outstanding.
Highlights were quinoa falafal with cucumber yougurt spread, icky battered anchovies with herb aioli, crispy brussels sprouts with bacon, vermouth and caramelized onions, sticky thai ribs with centro kimchi, pork belly miso braised, and espresso braised short rib. I believe I've left out a few others.
The only misses were the house hummus, watermelon salad(mostly greens but little watermelon), and filthy bastard fries(too thick, not crispy-more like fingerling potaotes).
They have an interesting craft cocktail list and a nice selection of wines by the glass.
We all agreed to return and try everything else on the menu.
I like Centro as well. Alberto hired David Stern to be the chef there. He cooked the meal we all enjoyed at SoDo and he's been at a few other places.
Pictured are some of the dishes I've enjoyed at Centro: Short rib, deviled eggs and the Tan Albino during Negroni Week, my favorite Negroni of the week.
They have a patio as well that looks like it might be a good location for a GRGAGG chowdown.
Can't wait to try it! I love small plates! And I can only assume that when you say "icky battered anchovies" that you are referring to a batter made with Ichthyosaur Pale Ale (aka "Icky", a popular local brew named after our state fossil), and not that they tasted "icky"! lol...just clarifying for the uninitiated:-)
