I was out this past weekend for dinner with friends and the four of us enjoyed a very memorable meal at Centini's downtown. Now, lucky me, I was not paying for our meal but I have to say even if it had been my turn to buy, I would say it was worth it!

We really had a wonderful meal. I had lobster bisque to start and it was marvelous. Rich and creamy without being too thick. The serving sizes were incredible. The bisque really was enough for a meal. My friends had escargot and they were served on huge platters and there were more than a dozen in each serving. The butter/cream sauce on the escargot was rich but worth every calorie.

Dinner for me was salmon wrapped scallop with proscuitto and it was incredible. Cooked to perfection and a gorgeous combination of flavours. We had some nice wine - by the glass - with our meal and the room is lovely and elegant.

My friends had pasta and they oohed and aahed through the meal.

The only thing was our servers. I am not sure if our girl was new or nervous or just too shy to be a waitress but she didn't contribute to our evening. Her accent was quite thick and a bit difficult to understand and half the time when we asked her a question she just walked off and brought someone else to our table to answer the question.

She was very accomodating though. Two of us had creme brulee for desert - lovely and light by the way which just the right amount of crunchy sweet sugar topping. One of my friends had a craving for strawberries and even though there was no sign of a parfait of straweberries on the menu, they graciously accomodated her request and a lovely parfait of gorgeous, fresh, beautiful strawberries magically appeared.

My husband had the chocolate mousse, which he has had before, and he said that it was some of the best he has ever had. He has a chocolate dessert almost every time we eat out so he has a lot of experience in this area.

I know that Centini's is expensive - some would say ridiculously so. However, I have to say, for a special night out, I would do it again and I would even buy.
