There is plenty of threads here and on knife forums singing the praises of the carbon steel CCK knives, 1303 and 1103 in particular.
However, they are a little dated and the prices of CCK knives have been increasing steadily.
chefknivestogo now has the large slicer (1103) at $100. I just stopped by the Markham shop and got the same knife for $90 CAD all up. That's pretty pricey for a traditionally cheap knife. I can get a similar Shibazi knife (although stainless and with a more pronounced belly) for under $20.
Especially considering one can also get a very nice VG-10 Zhen knife on Ebay for $80 shipped, the question becomes is the CCK still worth it?
