masha | Jun 1, 202008:40 AM     49

Welcome to the Reporting Thread for our June 2020 Dish of the Month (“DOTM”), Causa – sometimes called “Causa Rellena” or “Causa Limena” (meaning from Lima).

Thanks to all the hounds who participated during the nomination and voting phases for our June 2020 DOTM. To see how we got here, you can go to our Nominations, https://www.chowhound.com/post/dish-m... and Voting threads, https://www.chowhound.com/post/dish-m....

For those of you unfamiliar with Causa, it’s Peruvian dish consisting of molded layers of peppery potato salad as well as other ingredients – often chicken or seafood, but there are vegetarian versions too. The dish has its origins in the Pacific War of 1879, in which Peru (and Bolivia) were attacked by Chili. In support of “the cause” – i.e., “causa” – the dish was derived to use the potatoes and other random foods collected by female supporters of the Peruvian army. See https://www.apec2016.pe/the-origins-o....

So, let’s get going preparing and reporting on the Causas that we make during June. If you do report the details of a published recipe, please respect the author’s copyright of by either: (a) including a link directly to the source of the recipe, or (b) if no link is available, use your own words to paraphrase and explain the instructions for making the dish (although you may directly quote any list and quantities of ingredients).
