I've been thinking of picking some wild cattail shoots - they're supposed to be delicious and there are lots of them out there. Has anyone ever eaten them? Any suggestions as to how to prepare these things? Now this is the part of the plant that is at the very base of the green leaves you see poking out of the water. You give the plant a yoink and it snaps off at the base. There's a light green/white part at the bottom which is the edible portion. It looks like heart of palm, really. I'm intrigued but would like some ideas. I haven't yet had the nerve to just plain take a bite.
