At the edge of Los Gatos, just prior to the climb over 17 to Santa Cruz, sits a classic roadside pub and BBQ pit, The Cats. It has a great big bar with 9 beers on tap including Guiness. Your drink and food order is taken immediately after stepping in to the place . You can eat only on the restaurant side to the right. The bar has tables and chairs as well as comfy leather banquets. The menu has various rib, chicken and steak combos, pretty reasonably priced ($12.95 for the chicken and rib combo). Dinner comes with a dinner salad in fake-o wood bowls, garlic toast and gobs of really red BBQ sauce. The chicken was good; the ribs a little dry but in no way bad. Music is also served up on the weekends. Nothing like a drink or two before hittin' Highway 17.

The Cats Restaurant, 17533 Santa Cruz Highway, Los Gatos.
