Is catfish roe ever been used in cooking that anyone knows? I have found a few places on the internet that mention people speaking of their grandfathers cooking it with eggs, but catfish roe otherwise seems to hit to garbage pail with the rest of the fish when butchering and cleaning. Seems like a waste to me, and seeing as we catch a lot of catfish I have access to lots of roe.
Can you salt cure your own eggs? I have read you can, but it would be no use to put in all that effort if catfish roe is no good for consumption.
If anyone has seen catfish roe in restaurants, or knows if any ways to prepare it they have tried or heard of please let me know!
