I know similar questions have been posed hundreds of times - I have combed through the archives, but still haven't uncovered quite the right place (it may be that it doesn't exist) so thought I would ask.
I'm a former Montrealer who moved back to Ontario in 2005 - a lot has changed on the Montreal restaurant scene since then so I'm looking for suggestions.
We'll be passing through Montreal on our way to Maine next weekend. I'm seeking out a casual, but reliably good bistro in the Plateau or Mile End. I'd like to be able to show my husband around my old neighbourhood and then head somewhere nearby for dinner. Last time we were in Montreal we ate at L'Express, so I'd like a new place for my husband to try that has some great Quebecois cuisine (APC is the first place that comes to mind, but the older I get the more sensitive my stomach gets, and I just don't think it would sit well with me). I've eaten numerous time at Au Cinquieme Peche (in its former location on Mont Royal), and would consider it again but am not sure it's quite what I'm looking for.
What I want:
-casual bistro in the Plateau or Mile End
-reliably good food for two Ontario foodies
-typically Quebecois or French
-reasonably priced (preferably entrees under $30)
Any suggestions you can offer would be most appreciated.
