Help with a casual yet really good Birthday dinner, NoVA pref

A good friend of mine who mowas supposed to go home to the west coast for her birthday but unfortunately now cannot make the trip, so she's stuck here. I am taking it upon myself to take her to dinner, and I could use some help finding a good place. She is going to want a place where casual (i.e. decent jeans and perhaps a slight upgrade from t-shirt) is appropriate, but with good American food. She is somewhat adventurous but has often been disappointed when stepping outside of her comfort zone so I'd rather go with something she'd like. Her favorites are lamb (basic preparations), shellfish (shrimp, crab, scallops) and beef (particularly prime rib, anything but filet really). Her favorite spots so far in her limited time here have been Sweetwater Tavern and Cantler's. She liked those better than Ray's the Steaks, which she thought was a little too stressful and hipsterish. She also likes her beer.

So, I'm trying to find a place where we can go, eat some good American food in a nice-yet-casual setting, drink some beers, and dwell for a couple of hours on a sunday evening. She lives in Centreville so something in NoVA would be preferred, though I don't mind hauling her down to DC.

I know this request is a pain and rather mundane food-wise compared to the typical discussions here, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

She has already shot down goat tocos or Lamb Ouzi as options. "Too weird."
