My wife and I are leaving our 2 and 4 year old boys with Grandma and coming to Manhattan this Saturday and Sunday. Having grown up in Queens and working in Greenwich Village during my college summers, I used to hit the same old places all the time when visiting family. (I've lived south of the Mason-Dixon line for the past 15 years). Having finally come to terms with the fact that I am now a NY tourist, I am free to explore the world beyond McSorley's (although we will probably still stop by for an afternoon pair of beers).
Budget dictates casual, affordable dining. The tentative plan:
Saturday lunch - Miracle Grill, possible stops at St. Dymnpha's, Hop-Devil, Slainte, Pete's Tavern
Saturday bar food dinner -Waterfront Ale House (suggestions beyond pulled pork and burgers?)
Saturday night entertainment - looking for something cheap, casual - Upright Citizens Brigade, just strolling around the Village/LES?
Sunday early lunch - Katz's Deli
Sunday afternoon hit the Strand, Housing Works used books cafe, the book festival in Bryant Park
Sunday early dinner at the bar - Otto
Sunday night - The Kennedys at Joe's Pub, maybe an Irish music trad session
Have to leave very early Monday morning - What's the closest place place that will be open to grab a couple dozen of good bagels (staying at 30th and Lex)?
Thanks for any help/suggestions!
