Castro's Bakery & Deli | King City

Melanie Wong | Jun 5, 201501:50 AM     1

Before heading home from King City, I stopped to check out Castro's. Even at 8pm, the counter was busy with folks buying treats and I had to wait a bit for service.

The flan looked good and that's what I bought to take home for dessert. I was a bit taken aback at check out when I learned it was $6. Yet, once I had the bag in hand and hefted it, this was a big and heavy serving size. And after tasting it, this flan is completely worth it. Very velvety texture with no bubbles, rich flavor of real eggs (not powdered), and depth of burnt sugar. I wish it were closer so I could have it again soon.

I also noticed that Castro's has a complete menu of antojitos, tortas, breakfast plates, and other Mexican specialties. There's a seating area for eating in. Next time in King City, I think I'll try the savory side.
