yet another cast iron question

all this talk of cast iron skillets has me wondering: is it ok to use them on a cruddy old electric stove(basically four hot plates with an oven attached)?

the burners don't heat completely evenly and when food sticks to the bottom of the pan it does so in a thick ring pattern. but i'm stuck with it for now and am trying to make the most of it. i've avoided using my prized cast iron skillet until now, but now i'm tempted to try it out again.
