In a case of a little knowledge is dangerous, here goes. Over the last several years I’ve started appreciating bourbon. I’ve probably sampled 50+ different bottles. I prefer bourbon at the strength (proof) that it comes out of the aging barrel, alternately called barrel-proof or barrel-strength, cask strength. Standard bourbon is made by diluting cask strength bourbon with water down to the desired proof, usually around 80-100. The problem with cask strength bourbon is that it typically is a little harsh (hot) from all that alcohol. One bourbon I find is not is Barrell Craft Spirits Cask Strength Bourbon https://www.barrellbourbon.com/bourbon.
This is a blended bourbon which by some is supposedly considered a sacrilege. Regardless, to my tastes it’s super smooth despite being about 115 proof. I drink it in a rocks glass with one slow melting giant ice cube. I’m wondering, are there other cask strength bourbons that are smooth? Thanks, and Cheers!
