Just ate at Casbah Rouge (Broadway between 110 and 111), and wanted to report a very nice dining experience. The two of us had the following:
1) Tunisian Ajja Merguez poached eggs with a Tunisian spiced tomato sauce
2) Hand Rolled Moroccan Cigars flaky pastry stuffed with choice of chicken, lamb, vegetable or savory cheese
3) Mezze Plate chef's selection of middle eastern spreads and vine leaves
#1 above was my favorite. Very flavorful, but be careful if you're a vegi-nazi: the tunisian sauce includes absoilutely fabulous lamb sausage. I'd probably skip #2 next time, #3 was nice. For $7 each, a fine deal. These were all "meze" and not a *ton* of food, but excellent for a light dinner. There was also a lovely cilantro-spiced pita and olive tapenade that were frequently replenished.
We also had a very affordable ($28), pleasantly spicy Algerian grenache, which paired well with the spicy Tunisian tomato sauce.
Service was very attentive and friendly, and they even brought us a free baklava dessert.
If anyone else eats here, I'd be interested to hear if the experience was as good as ours!
