Casa Maria, Nha Trang, RIP

Ruth Lafler | May 24, 2005 02:47 AM

Someone mentioned a while back that they thought Nha Trang in Oakland had closed. I swung by there the other day and yes, it's sporting a "coming soon" sign for a Japanese restaurant. I'm so sad -- not only was it the only place around to get seven courses of fish, but the outdoor patio with the view of Lake Merritt was wonderful on a warm evening.

Also, I was cruising International the other day and noticed that Casa Maria had reverted to its previous incarnation: Tio Tono. While Casa Maria was wildly uneven, I had some good food there, and its menu wasn't a carbon copy of every other restaurant in Fruitvale. Alas, the menu at Tio Tono is such a carbon copy, plus I was never impressed enough with their taco truck offerings to try the main restaurant. The hostess at Tio Tono said Casa Maria had moved, but she didn't know where.
