Casa de Tacos -- Hacienda Heights, Canoga Park

When I was a kid in Brea, Orange County, the taquitos and bean-and-cheese burritos at Casa de Tacos were two of my favorite things to eat. I didn't realize at the time, but the avocado sauce served over the taquitos evoked the happy feelings I had visiting Alvera Street. It's been a long time since the Casa de Tacos on Whittier Blvd in La Habra changed its name, and even longer since I've visited Alvera Street. Well, I had forgotten all about Casa de Tacos until several months ago when I read a posting on this board from David Boyk. He mentioned a Casa de Tacos in Chatsworth. Chatworth? Could this be related? I never get out to Chatsworth, but I made a mental note in case that day ever came.

The other day I was exploring the chow situation in Hacienda Heights and I spotted it. Casa de Tacos! I'm very happy to report the avocado sauce is the same: a pourable, pale green guacamole with a slight piquancy. Evidently, Casa de Tacos was a small chain, and I think the Chatsworth (technically Canoga Park) location was one of the branches. Anyway, the Hacienda location is in a strip mall on the west side of Hacienda Blvd, just north of Halliburton. It's located next door to a place that sells beef jerky, which looks interesting.
