For my overnight in Taos, I booked the Azteca room in the main building of Casa Benavides. Located in the heart of the historic district, it was an easy walk to see the sights, and within sniffing distance of the chocolate production of Chokola https://www.chowhound.com/post/chokol... .
Breakfast is served at a beautifully set table, a nice change from buffets, in a lovely dining room. Good marks for the homemade granola, peaches and vanilla yogurt, warm muffins, and the baked frittata topped with cheese and Christmas chile.
On arrival, I sampled the selection of complimentary house-baked cakes and pies with afternoon tea. But they were all far too sugary for my taste.
Though the front desk is not staffed 24-hours, a call to the after hours line for what turned out to be user error in adjusting the air conditioning was answered promptly and thoroughly. I was welcome to use the comfortable lobby and wi-fi after checkout for a final route check. The warm hospitality will bring me back.
