on an otherwise bleak appearing food zone in queens a place i think called CARRIBEAN TASTE finally caught my eye today for lunch.
the menu had a variety of roti permutations but i knew they did not have them all so i just asked,"whats good today?" hoping to get the freshest dish. so i got the chicken roti ($5) and a peanut drink ($2.50) and was it all mighty fine!
nice mellow curry w/ four large pieces of stewed chicken and a lentil side. the roti was thin & had some garlic/grain inside, anyone know what that is? great for dipping in the curry. don't forget to ask for the spicy sauce -- its still not really a hot spicy dish at all but instead adds a very flavorful contrast to the curry. i saw they have some carribean drinks, trini treats and a few groceries too. its a very plain yet nice lunch option in this nabe. i saw the jamaican style GOLDEN CRUST chain outlet across the street but other than chains and chicken shops thats about it foodwise.
CARRIBEAN TASTE (hope i have that name right) is a trinidadian roti shop on sutphin at jamaica ave. it's a block north of the sutphin/archer e,j,z trains and the lirr. i'll be back here occasionally anyone rec some other lunch options? thanks.
