Carribean Plate Falls Church

Washington DC Meal Review Falls Church Fairfax

Picked up some food to go here. First, the restaurant is very clean and colorful. It was lunch time and a few other patrons were picking up food to go. We ordered the oxtails, shrimp roti, and a spicy beef patty. The food was all very good. The oxtails were not spicy but super moist and flavorful. My only issue is that for $20, I would have liked more oxtails. Probably came with 6 or 7 pieces but as can be expected, a good portion of the oxtail is just bone. It came with rice and peas and braised cabbage, all of which were delicious. The shrimp roti had a curry sauce flavor but not spicy. I have had Trinidadian roti in Miami before which was very spicy and had potatoes as a filler. This one was mainly just some shrimp, peppers, onions, and sauce. Could have used some potato to absorb some of the sauce. The beef patty was really good. Seemed homemade and was quite spicy and tasty. I really enjoyed it.

Overall, we both enjoyed the food but felt it was pretty expensive for what it was. The total bill was about $45 without any drinks or tip since it was a to go order. They did have some interesting looking specials on a board including a curry lobster dish that sounded good. I still want to try Caribbean Corner in Fairfax but this is a solid option for Jamaican in the area

    1. Worldwide Diner The cheapest oxtail I could find is $7.99/lb. It’s become quite an expensive cut, as you noted it’s mostly bones.

      1. alkapal My friend and I were fine with the flavors, but nothing to impress. Sort of expensive, too. Won't be returning.

Pretty much the same here. We like the food but it's pricey for what it is, so stopped going there. Owner is apparently "the Muffin Man" who gained his fame in a Maryland Jamaican joint before leaving and opening this place.
