No one has mentioned this place yet? A friendly, no-frills taqueria on Beacon Avenue, it is probably the most reliable cheap meal I have learned of in the past half-dozen years or so. The eponymous carnitas is the go-to order here, and from time-to-time we see a cook using a giant paddle to swirl hunks of pork in a massive fired kettle. Even better, another cook staffs a press and produces a continual stream of tortillas hecho a mano. I can only think of one other joint in the region that engages in this superior practice without making a fuss over it and charging $5-ish per taco as a result, as is done at a handful of generally buzzier, gringo-oriented places.

In addition to the carnitas, a number of other taco meats are offered, as well as other antojitos and a rotating list of daily specials. An array of a fresh salsas are on offer, included a foot-wide molcajete of pico de gallo (though this may have changed due to COVID). In the before times, the dining area was frequented by tables of co-workers and friends drinking buckets of beer, slurping soups, and watching soccer. Hopefully we shall see that again.
