Carney's vs. Original Tommy's - The debate roars on

rockhead | Jun 5, 2005 04:00 AM

Recently visited both Carney's in Studio City and Tommy's on Laurel Canyon in North Hollywood. Gotta tell ya, I've gone to Carney's for years but the Tommy's chili burger and chili fries were superior to Carney's - and at a much smaller cost!

What do you all think of Carney's? It's very close to my home, and my kids like the train-gimmick, so we find ourselves going there a lot, but I find it overpriced for what you get (with the exeception of the $1.00 chocolate-dipped bananas). The chili served-up on the burgers is SKIMPY at best, god-forbid they should give you a little more of chili, they treat it like it's gold. Unless you order one of the bigger burgers, at a much higher cost, good luck finding the meat, as the meat patties on the regular burgers are wafer thin.

I know it's part of the Carney's experience, but not to mention the crazy ordering/box system that causes a huge back-up/wait for "fast food." Just try and go around lunch time on the weekends and see how long you'll have to wait to order, move down the line and finally get your food. With restless kids in tow, eager to eat, it usually isn't a pleasurable time.

The hot dogs are good at Carney's and I can't speak for those at Tommy's as I've never ordered one. I love the fact Tommy's will give you extra chili on the burger at no additional cost. Lots more chili on the chili fries as well. And, the chili was tastier.
