Had dinner at Carlo's in Allston (Brighton Ave.) for the first time the other night. It's become the regular date spot my roommates, so I thought I'd check it out.
The food there is absolutely great, and it's a great value. We had a bruschetta starter, which was huge---probably about 3 times the size anywhere else, which was piled with tomatoes, garlic and herbs, obviously made fresh that day, because the tomatoes were still constituted and not mushy. Plus they piled olives and peppers on there---all for around 6 bucks.
I had a veal dish for dinner, which was great...stuffed with fontina and proscuitto. The veal was good quality and prepared well. Plus a side of pasta with red sauce, which is always nice at an Italian restaurant, cause you always kind of want just a little taste of pasta.
The entrees run from 10-14 bucks, have big servings and are very fresh. Much better, simpler and authentic than the supposed stars of the North End.
The location is weird, the place is tiny, but it's worth it for the food.
