carbon steel - sheet metal ??

kseiverd | Oct 3, 201509:41 AM     5

I'm a teacher aide and student I'm working with is going to be learning how to weld. See to recall something about using carbon steel sheet in oven as a "pizza steel". Teacher is a welder, not a cook, and looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked if they ever had any "scraps"... like 12-15" square.

Am I imagining the whole thing? I don't think so. Is there a specific type/gauge/grade of carbon steel? Any special prep... like seasoning a cast iron skillet? Just had thought for a project (fund raiser) that kids could use their skills with. Cut round & weld on handles?!? Have I lost my last marble or genius??
