There is a debate raging currently about the effectiveness of low-carb vs. low-fat diets, partly instigated by the article that appeared in the July 7th issue of the NY Times magazine ("What it It's All Been a Big Fat Lie?") The Times article stated that there has been a subtle shift in the scientific consensus over the last five years that low-fat diets may not work.
The author also points out that Americans are "weirdly polarized" on the subject of weight. So, I am wondering what the Chowhound community thinks of this issue.
I'm also curious to hear from people who have tried the Atkins diet (or similar ones). There seems to be a growing body of anecdotal evidence that such diets really do work.
