I had a eye opening "lo carb" experience today...then I log on to chowhound to find it is the topic du jour....
Preface to say...I don't really know much about Atkins or South Beach,
I am just trying to eat healthier, more vegies and lean protein, tofu and other boring stuff...and I have to EXERCISE more. I have high cholesterol which I need to get under control.
I was at the local food co-op today, and decided to splurge on a guilt free treat. There was vegan carrot cakes and other things that actually looked pretty tasty. I was in a hurry so I grabbed a cheesecake slice... the first ingredient was tofutti so I thought, well it might be OK or it might taste nasty and i'll throw it away, but I'll try it..no great loss.
So I get home and try a bite...wow this is REALLY good for vegie health food cheesecake..I mean really how does it taste so much like cream cheese?...Then I look at the label and lo and behold...I should have read further in the store...it is LO CARB cheesecake...meaning tofutti AND creamcheese, splenda, sourcream....HAHAHA no wonder it tastes so good. my bad conscious scarfed it down while my good conscious sputtered with indignation that it was on the shelf next to the vegan cheesecake. I think that just goes to show that if you blindfold a chowhound and lead her to a vegie dessert case she will find what's tasty.
given my own hi cholesterol profile, no diet that allows whole cream cheese and sour cream is going to be anything but fast a road to a heart attack...and that doesnt even start to take into account what splenda is ( what is SPENDA???)
