Caramel French Patisserie - Salem MA review

Superb!

It opened in 2015, and today was the first time we went there. They offer macarons, and croissants, too, but we were there for the patisserie. In the end, we had 3 different types of their (very fine) patisserie: Royal (dark chocolate), 3 chocolates, and Sophie (berry). They are presented, fitting enough, like jewels, in a spare but elegant array inside a glass case. A hit of very fine rich pastry.

As is our preference, these 3 were primarily richly flavored cream-based treats (mousse), rather than a lot of flour-based cake. They are very well put together: a bit of dacquoise nut crunch as a "spine" to the chocolate ones - an extra dimension of both flavor and texture.

Coffee is available, served in paper cups. Service is friendly. Price is about $5 per pastry portion, and is fully justified by the quality of the offerings.

Absolutely on a par - actually better- than similar style bakeries I've been to in London, New York, and Boston. If you're going to have cake (and you will), let it be of this quality.
