Well, I finally went over to Caracas arepa and was a bit disapointed - the fillings were all fairly tasty, but the masa (dough/pastry) was not to my liking. Now, I don't know how these taste in Venezuela, but in Colombia these would not be acceptable. The masa was too thick and bland.
I tried both the arepas and the empanadas and the same was true for both (not surprising since the only difference is one is grilled and the other fried). I guess I was really expecting the type of crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a real taste of corn, arepas and empanadas, that I used to eat in Bogota. Does anyone know if this is really how these are made in Caracas? Oh, but the lemon and sugar came drink was very good.
