The caputo cheese market just sent us a little note saying they'll be closed for remodeling from 9/8 to 10/1 of this year. A somewhat surprising development, but a welcome one.
My guess, though, is that with the remodeling they will add produce and more grocery-type goods, but with a special focus on adding produce. Back in may or june, one of the kids working at the deli counter was doing an informal poll: "Do you think we should start selling produce?" -- apparently everyone had given an emphatic yes.
A few weeks later, there was a written petition at the checkout counters asking for signatures of people who wanted the cheese market to sell produce.
I figure, if they can get a produce area rivalling the Caputo's on harlem, there will be no reason for me to make that trek (except, perhaps, to buy skirt steak, which Jim's Meats has to special order).
The other big development: After the remodeling, we'll be able to shop online at www.wisconcorp.com. No word yet whether that will be for only the Caputo-branded products (mostly spices, grated cheeses, and pastas) or for everything, including the fresh mozz and other young cheeses.
