Our recent subscription to LA Magazine resulted in a nice welcome card with an enclosed card naming a $50 certificate to the Capital Grille, to be used before the end of January (2011).
Gathered our regular dining buddies, M and L, last Saturday together with visiting Chowpuplet to the event; first off: free valet parking. great. Second, a two step walk to the front door and third - a friendly, efficient host who confirmed our reserve and handed us to a walker to show our table. So far so good.
Looking at the menu with sky rocket prices, we joked, we should have a salad and go to Juniors for dinner - but we chose another route and with the help of our waitperson Abbe - he suggested that the steaks are large and can be split and the sides were enormous. He was right: M and I shared the steak au poivre with a Courvoisier cream sauce - best steak I have eaten since my last visit to Montana and lick the plate sauce. I had 6 oysters to start and Mme Zoe and L split a Caesar. Chowpuplet who is a vegetarian was happy with a salad.Macaroni cheese with lobster was the bomb x 2 it was SO tasty - scalloped potatoes a bit greasy , creamed spinach top notch. M had the iceberg wedge with blue cheese and bacon bits, mucho bacon and Mme Zoe and L split the tenderloin steak which they said was excellent.. Bottle of wine and a couple of scotches for M - complimentary desserts because Abbe said we had been so patient. PATIENT - it was lightening service but we ate them fast and they were well worth eating - choc flourless and cheesecake with raspberries. Bill was $262 before the $50 knocked off.
Simply great food and service, nice room, good sound level.
