Capellini's in San Mateo, brief review

Kim Cooper | Apr 19, 2003 12:20 AM

We had dinner at Capellini’s in San Mateo this evening. We went there because it was an anniversary, and the original event we were celebrating occurred at Capellini’s.
We had a drink: Cosmopolitans. Strong.
We had salad: red and golden beets, candied pecans, feta cheese, spring greens, vinaigrette (raspberry?). It was VERY good.
We had house-made ravioli con fungi – spectacular. There were only seven of them – why do they give you a prime number when you are splitting dishes? But really good.
We had veal scaloppini. Lots of mushrooms, very tender veal. Very nice.
We had lemon tart with raspberry sauce. Very nice. Crispy crust on top of caramelized sugar. Slightly over-carmelized, but tasty nonetheless.
Total bill: $63 and change, before tip.

All in all, classics done well. Friendly service. Since we were the first table to be seated downstairs, we were nervous that we would be forgotten, but we were not.
We’re glad to know they are still good.
