Apparently the Mottzar Kitchen experiment has failed with its replacement by Canton Lounge at 70 Mott St. Mottzar, which consulted with Joe Ng on its menu, brought the promise of modern Hong Kong style cuisine found in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto to New York Chinatown. However Chinatown wasn't ready for this kind of food or its prices. Interestingly, though, Canton Lounge does carry on the Mottzar pricing tradition, which makes me wonder how long they'll last. The simplest dinner items start at around $12 and work their way up into the $30+ range, though there is currently a 20% discount on dine in dinners. And there are a few inventive items on the menu like mango steak. Weekday lunch time is a good value, though, with $6.50 lunch specials. And the fish in an orange juice based sauce was actually mighty fine.
