Cantaloupe and Carmelo Crunch at Mitchell's (SF)

Melanie Wong | Aug 29, 200510:50 PM

During a recent visit, my dad's first solid food in 48-hours was lunch on Irving Street. When we were done, he said he was tired and needed to lie down. I asked, "Do you need to nap right away or after ice cream?" He quickly answered, "AFTER ice cream." And, off we went to Mitchell's.

My mom and dad each picked coffee for their flavors --- very intense and concentrated. I tried the flavor of the month, cantaloupe, and a new concoction, carmelo crunch. The carmelo crunch is studded frozen chocolate-coated mini caramels. The chocolate shell shatters into crispy bits when you bite into them and yields to chewy, sticky caramel. The cantaloupe has pulp in the body as well as thinly shaved slices of melon for a full-blown, peak-of-season cantaloupe experience. Catch it before it's gone.
