Just spent the weekend down in Cannon Beach. Apparently a new comer to town (I haven't been before) is the EVOO cooking school. We had dinner there and it was a WONDERFUL fine dining experience.
We were there for a private event, so our experience may be a little different than the norm. For $100/person, we had a 4-course meal with wine. The restaurant only seats about 20, and they prepare and present the food for you. Everyone eats off the same menu (aside from specific dietary restrictions) and everything was perfectly executed. Our first 3 courses were actually like mini meals on their own...each with 3 components.
Bob and Lenora, your hosts/chefs/proprieters are wonderful and engaging. There is audience participations as sous chefs. Atmosphere is sparkling (you feel like you are on the set of a Food tv show), with comfy seating (it was a long meal) and the ability to shop the store before and after the meal (and purchase many of the specialty items used to create your meal).
The ingredients are largely local. Not sure if they are organic or not, but I wouldn't be surprised. And the experience is one of education. How to get the most out of wine tasting, what to look for in pairing, how to use a mandolin, how to get raw eggs safely to room temperature.
It was really a lot of fun, and an exceptional dining experience. I can't wait to go back.
