I haven't felt this relaxed and food-happy in a while. The combination of the beaming, warm sun, great food, and even better company does wonders for the soul. Conversations about how to get adopted by a Vietnamese family and Iron Chef style cooking battles made for a fun time...
Eight hard-core hounds revisited My Canh, the site of our last Viet lunch gathering. Most everyone, except for two members, had eaten there previously. View our last report w/ photos here:

Follow Nathan P's link to previous gatherings at Vung Tau and Quang Da.
This lunch had us feasting on the following (in order of service and photos linked below):
#22 Goi Bo Tai Chanh - lemon beef salad.
#6 Goi Muc - squid salad w/ ginger sauce and sesame rice cracker.
#7 Goi Ca Sturgeon - sturgeon salad.
#38 Ca Bong Lau Kho To - simmered catfish in clay pot.
#36 Ca Chim Chien Don - fried crispy pompano w/ fish sauce.
#45 Lau Ca Tuyet - sea bass and vegetable fire pot.
#44 Lau Thai Do Bien - Thai style seafood and vegetable fire pot.
**Note: unfortunately, they are no longer serving abalone or duck salad listed on their take out menu.
Total for 8 of us w/ rice and tea and including generous tip was $15pp--an amazing bargain. For now, I'll just say that I found this spread collectively more enjoyable than the last (and the last was quite good!). I'm already daydreaming about that lemon beef salad. I'll add more comments after my partners in chow have a chance to chime in.
If anyone is interested in getting on the invite list for our monthly Thurs. lunch gatherings, then feel free to email me at the above. If anyone has suggestions for sit-down Viet restaurants in San Jose/South Bay for us to scope out, please throw them into the mix!
