Ok so they're not in Phoenix but after a visit to Arizona wine country in Elgin/Sonoita, I had to let people know about Canela Bistro. We made the 2.5 hour drive down to Sonoita and attended a wine pairing dinner given by Dos Cabezas WineWorks & Canela Bistro. Desserts were made by guest pastry chef and Phoenix resident Tracy Dempsey of Tracy Dempsey Originals. (You may have heard of her and her very famous bacon brittle.) Chef John Hall of Canela Bistro could have easily chosen to open his restaurant in Scottsdale, but instead he chose to be close to the locally produced foods he likes to cook. His menu changes frequently based on what's in season, etc. His selections at our dinners were thoughtful to Todd Bostock's Dos Cabeza wine selections. His charcuterie plate was heaven. It's worth the drive down to taste the various Arizona wines in their tasting rooms, but Chef Hall's food is worth sticking around for. So make the trip down and try some delicious AZ wine and enjoy a fantastic meal at Canela Bistro!
