Cane Rosso Report

I met a friend to try the newly opened Cane Rosso today. Short version: pricey, but in keeping with FB prices overall, and very tasty. We'll probably be back.

We shared three things:

$9 PLT: panchetta, baby greens, and tomatoes on a soft buttered brioche. Classic! Like a BLT, but better. There wasn't much panchetta, but that's kind of the point of this style of sandwich. You eat a small piece of perfectly smoked meat, and it's enough to flavor the whole sandwich.

$9 Beef brisket sandwich: this was a far more substantial sandwich for the same price.. As tasty as the PLT was, I would choose the beef brisket if I were hungry. A nice amount of shredded, juicy (but not soggy) meat on a soft roll. Adding to the juiciness of the beef were warmed cherry tomatoes. What a great idea! The tomatoes, farmers market varieties with just the right combination of sweetness and acidity, popped in my mouth with each bite, a very nice change of pace from a sliced piece of tomato.

$5 Polenta: lovely texture. I thought it possibly needed more flavor or salt, but I mistakenly ate it after the sandwiches so my tastebuds may have been off. It was served piping hot and really soft and comforting regardless. I would get this again to see how the flavors are to a fresh palate.

Service was quick and friendly. You order your food, and everything is brought to your table. We had our meal in under 5 minutes, and when we were done our table was cleared quickly and we were asked how we liked everything. Everyone was all smiles, and the staff was good about answering questions about what was in what. Overall, I think it's a nice addition to the FB, and not quite like anything else currently available.

They were selling bacon-caramel popcorn in to go boxes. I was intrigued, but didn't get one. Has anyone tried it?
